I'm slowing working my way through the bike, checking and fixing things. I noticed a small hole in the downpipe near the bash plate, will have to get this welded up.Īll in all, the bike is starting to run better. Seemed a bit smoother, responded to the throttle better. I put a new spark plug in, fitted the exhaust again and gave it a run up the road. Flushed it out with boiling water and was coming out black.

Bit of a relief that as they are so hard to get hold of now.ĭid a de-coke of the exhaust, left it full of caustic soda overnight. On the poor running issue, I had the exhaust off to check the powervalves. Went straight through the MOT with no issues, so a good result. Dawned on me a couple of hours before that it would need a chain guard for the mot, we managed to knock up something to bolt on and cover the chain up, sprayed it black, didn't look too bad! Changed the silencer for the original Kawasaki item to get the noise down. Changed the front tyre for a road legal trail tyre. Got the bike ready for the mot on Saturday. I've seen the back ends of KMX's being raised by altering the rear suspension linkage (dog bones). I could use some guidance on the fitting of the forks, if anybody has managed to fit these to a KMX before?Īlso, if anybody could tell me the year these forks appeared on KX500's that would help, as I'll need to find a wheel, spindle, caliper and fork guards at some stage.Īlso I believe these forks will raise the front end of the KMX by a couple of inches. I'm aware this will not be a straightforward job for a few reasons.ġ) More travel than STD KMX forks - will affect handling of bike if not correctedĢ) Will need to use the KX wheel, spindle, disk and caliper.ģ) The headstock tube is tapered towards the bottom - this will need to be machined for fit the KMX headstock, I believe? However, on closer inspection the yokes are marked KX500. I looked for a pair of these, but the later USD forks from a KDX turned up cheaply, so I snapped them up. It also means being able to use the twin piston caliper which comes as standard on the KDX which I believe will give much better braking. Have been advised that the conventional forks and yokes from the early '90's models fit the KMX with very few modifications apart machining back the frame stops to extend the turning circle. Been thinking about doing the front end conversion with some later KDX200 forks.
